Pulse Management is a lifestyle.
The dream originated in the quaint little surf town of
Carlsbad with the most amazing sunsets and surf. Our dream
has evolved to include snowboarding, basing our corporation
in the majestic blue mountains of Oregon. "The Ranch",
as we call it, sits amidst a view as seen in the movie "A
River Runs Through It."
Our philosophy is simple. We started small and are staying
small. Being extremely selective, and passionately focused,
we do not represent hundreds of people to send out on "cattle
call" auditions. Our attention is given to the best
of the best .individuals with aesthetics, but more importantly,
those with drive and amazing personalities! By focusing
on these elite individuals, we can push their careers as
far and in as many different directions as possible.
We are a boutique management firm with over fifteen years
experience in managing models for high fashion, catalogue,
plus size, fitness, television, film, and extreme sports.
Our acting division is made entirely from our models with
abilities ranging from commercial to lead roles. We do not
represent extras or character actors. Extreme athletes are
those who exceptionally perform a sport such as rock climbing,
hang gliding, skiing or surfing.
Our wealth of clients and passion has blessed our lives
and those we represent tremendously, allowing dreams to
become reality. As you will see, we work directly with the
largest and most prestigious clients this industry offers.
Beyond the western markets we control, we place directly
with our partners and affiliates in London, Paris, Milan,
Tokyo, Sydney, and Munich.
When not bouncing between scouting offices looking for
the next potential talent in Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego,
Portland, Dallas, Boise, Denver, Salt Lake City and the
islands or hopping planes between New York, Europe and Asia
to launch careers, our personal time is spent at our NYC
loft, beach bungalow, and „The Ranch‰ raising
children and horses.
We surf, climb, dive, fly, jump, and snowboard hard! We
work, push and place even harder! Check your pulse!
What type of look does Pulse Management search for?
There are no specific requirements. No particular look or
talent will meet every client's need. Our job as an agency
is to provide clients with a variety of looks, ethnicities,
and talents. We do not search for someone who looks like
Naomi or Cindy. If a client wanted someone who looked like
them, they would hire them. We want fresh, new faces.
What about my measurements?
Although there are no perfect measurements, an individual's
weight must be distributed proportionately. For assessment,
females should give their current age, height, weight, bust,
waist, hips, dress, shoe, hair and eye color. Males should
give their current age, height, weight, suit, waist, inseam,
shoe, hair and eye color.
Do I need a professional portfolio?
No, you do not need an elaborate portfolio before signing
with an agency. They will help you develop one. We only
need three photos that clearly show your natural skin tone
(no make-up). The first should be a face shot with your
hair pulled back. The second is a profile headshot. The
third should be a full-length shot in a swimsuit. Write
your name, measurements and contact information on the back
of each picture as they may become separated.
What are the requirements to be represented by Pulse
Management?
High Fashion
Although there are rare exceptions, fashion models should
be tall, slender, and in good physical condition. Clothes
for runway shows and photo shoots generally come in only
one size. If you do not fit the clothes, it is very difficult
to find work. Females at least 5'8", ages 14-22. Males at
least 5'11", ages 18-35. For ideas, look to clients such
as Vogue, Elle, GQ, Armani, Ralph Lauren, MTV, VH-1, etc.
Print or Catalogue
A wider and less strict market, models must be attractive
and in good physical condition. There are no set height
or age requirements. For references, look to clients such
as YM, Seventeen, Teen, The Gap, J. Crew, Abercrombie and
Fitch, JC Penney, Sears, Nordstroms, etc.
Plus Size
Models must be attractive with fairly proportionate measurements.
Females at least 5'8". Males at least 5'11". For references,
look to clients such as Sears, Moda, JC Penney, Lane Bryant,
etc.
Extreme Athletes
Anything is possibleÖhang gliding, rock climbing, snow sports,
water sports, skateboarding, biking, etc. Athletes must
be a master of their craft and have proof of excellent performance
such as photos, demonstration videos, or awards.
Acting
We only use our models and athletes for industrials, television,
and film. We do not book extra or featured extra roles.
We book for the supporting and lead roles.
How does Internet exposure further a person's career?
Our talent are available to view online, twenty-four hours
a day. Even now, clients are viewing our site and making
decisions to book talent for runway shows, print catalogues,
motion pictures, TV sitcoms, sports and fitness, swimwear,
music videos, cosmetic campaigns, editorial layouts, and
on and on! If clients do not know you exist, what's the
point of being in the business? Our web site provider now
allows us to extend this same opportunity to new faces like
you.
Your eComp will contain your measurements, resume, video
and audio clips, photos, any talents and/or clients you
may have, and a reference number. Your phone number and
address will be kept for our use only. All clients will
be directed to contact us for bookings, using your reference
number. In addition, the site has been tested by a few of
the best "hackers" to further insure your protection.
Being booked for a job is simple with up to ten of your
best images available for viewing, twenty-four hours a day.
The site notifies us when a client logs in and shows interest
in you. We contact the client, pump up their interest, and
get the details of the job. We then contact you to verify
your availability. Finally, we confirm with the client and
"seal the deal."
It's that easy. And your eComp's power does not end there!
We do not idly sit and wait for a client to check out our
site. Our online agent will e-mail your eComp to all of
our existing clients worldwide. For any of your bookings
procured from the site, our commission rate is ten percent
from film jobs and twenty percent from fashion jobs. It
is in our best interest to procure work for you from your
eComp because we do not get paid until you book a job.
You may have tried to launch your own personal site before.
The problem is that prestigious companies do not have the
time to go through thousands of individual sites. The most
powerful clients will only visit the most reputable agency
sites. A site where they can trust the reputation of the
agency and know they will find the type of talent they are
looking for. Our site meets those standards, recording over
500,000 hits per month, placing us in the top 5% of the
industry. Keep reading to see if you qualify for representation
and how to get discovered!
How do I get noticed by Pulse Management?
Please e-mail current photos, measurements and contact information
to:
vikki@pulsemgmt.com
If we are interested, you will be invited to and given information
about our open call locations and times.
How will I know if Pulse Management is interested in
me?
It is not necessary to call us. An agent will contact you
within two weeks of receiving your materials. Your materials
will be returned to you only if you include a self-addressed,
stamped envelope in the package. All other materials will
be discarded.
What if I am already represented by another agency?
It is customary for your Mother Agency (the agency you first
signed a contract with) to arrange your placement with agencies
in other cities. You may want to first ask your agency to
contact us on your behalf. If your agency only procures
local work and they do not market you on our national or
international market level, you may contact us directly.
What if I am participating in a model search or convention?
Agents and scouts from Pulse Management attend various conventions,
but you do not need to wait to send us your material. As
a caution, make sure you check the references and verify
the convention's legitimacy. Remember, a professional model
agency does not charge you to review your photos. The charge
of these conventions should apply to flying all the agents
in to see you at one time, versus you flying to each city
to meet with them at different times.
How much will this cost me?
The interviewing process is free. In addition, no agency
should charge you a fee to be represented. The only time
a legitimate agency makes money is from a percentage of
the work they procure for you.
Models are considered to be self-employed in this industry.
Just like any other self-employed person, there are separate
costs that they may be responsible for. Necessities such
as photo shoots, composite cards, portfolios, Internet exposure,
and any training or coaching. All payments go directly to
the company providing the service to you. The agency does
not earn money from these items, but these items are needed
to provide the world with your image. Without image, no
one knows you exist.
Very few agencies may front or advance the costs for such
items, but this is rare as legal contracts are required
stating the model will repay the costs immediately. Regardless
if the model doesn't earn enough to repay their debts, she
is still responsible for the entire amount and, inevitably,
a legal battle incurs if she does not pay it. Most agencies
no longer practice this, as the legal battle is not worth
the hassle. Models who pay for their own supplies are much
less likely to "flake" and will work hard to procure a future
career for themselves.
What if Pulse Management is not interested in me?
Don't be discouraged. We see thousands of people every month
who want to break into the business. Maybe you just need
to tone your body, clear up your skin, or grow a bit more.
Come back and try us in a year. Otherwise, try one of the
other hundreds of legitimate agencies out there. Every agency
is looking for something different. Best of luck to you!
